Thermal Analysis of FGM Plates Using the Finite Element Method
The FGM plate in thermal environment is analyzed with finite element method because of the problems in the analytical solutions as figured out by the authors. The elementary stiffness matrix and loading vector are derived with variation principle for the rectangular element with four nodes. Numerical results are obtained and analyzed. The problems in the finite element analysis are figured out. It is found that the finite elementary solutions can not converge as the number of elements increases around the corners of the plate. This challenge problem will be further investigated in our future research.
