Generation of Terahertz repetition rate Electromagnetic Wave pulse based on SOI optical waveguides
In this paper, a simple project is presented and simulated for generation of~70-fs ultrashort electromagnetic wave pulse with 5-THz repetition rate at wavelength 1.55um based on the 4-mm long silicon-on-insulator (SOI) optical waveguides, in which a sinusoidal modulation wave at wavelength 1.45um and a continue-wave (CW) at wavelength 1.55um are synchronously introduced into the waveguide as a result that the CW will evolve into pulse train by the combined effects of group velocity dispersion and nonlinear frequency chirp induced by sinusoidal wave at the end of waveguide. Moreover, the properties of achieved pulse train are strongly dependent on the waveguide length and CW initial power that can be optimized to generating the high quality pulse train.
