1 Introduction In the post-WWII era, rapid urbaniTation has been an important new social phenomenon in all developing countries. Because rural economies can no longer provide for all the needs and comforts of the modem home, rural families have moved in large numbers to urban environments in pursuit of job opportunities. This has resulted in urban expansion and the problem of growing disparities between cities and towns. It is has produced high density residential landscapes but also crowded living conditions.
