Effect of Ozygen and Ezternal Heat Radiation on Characteristics of Flame Spread Rate over the Surface of Wood Sheets

To investigate the influence of ambient oxygen concentration and external heat radiation on the characteristics of flame spread over surface of charring materials, a set of experiments were conducted, with the whitewood with uniform texture as samples. The 16.72%-31.35% ambient oxygen concentration and 05kW/m2 external heat radiation were applied, to investigate the sole and co-influence of these two factors, and the rates of flame spread over the surface of horizontal samples in each condition were obtained. Results have shown that under the 16.72% ambient oxygen concentration, the flame spread was unable to be sustained after ignited. In the tests with sustaining flame spread, the flame spread rates increased with increasing of oxygen concentration and external heat radiation. In tests with low external heat radiation (≤ 1 kW/m2), the influence of change in oxygen concentration was more significant. And the increasing trends of flame spread rate with increasing of oxygen concentration were similar under different external heat radiation (0-3kW/m2).
