Comparison of Combustion Characteristics of Pool Fire in the Plateau and Plain

The experiments of the same dimension of gasoline pool fire were carded out to study the differences of combustion characteristics in Lhasa and Hefei. The experimental results show that, in the same fuel type and size, the ratio of burning rate in the two places equals to the ratio of atmospheric pressure for gasoline and diesel. The flames of gasoline fire in the plateau are more slender than in the plain for various oil pan sizes. With increase of the height, the plume centerline temperature descends in the plateau smaller than in the plain. For the same burning rate, the pool fire height and the centerline temperature in the plateau are higher than that in the plain. The McCaffrey formula of plume temperature does not apply to calculate fire plume temperature for small heat release rate in the low pressure environment.
