Reconstruction of a Storage Fire Scene Based on Numerical Simulation

Fire scene reconstruction helps investigators identify the fire behavior in a specific space. Numerical simulation of storage fire by using large eddy simulation (LES) may provide insight on fire origin and process. Based on the evacuees description and the combustion evidence of the scene, reconstruction simulation was performed, the fire origin was induced by electric short-circuit. The possibility of arson fire was eliminated by comparing the temperature, toxic gas and soot density of simulation results of key parts with the fire site reconnaissance results, the simulation results demonstrated good prediction of fire development and smoke movement by adopting parallel operation. This article also provides application of fire simulation into actual fire scene investigation.
