EXTRACTION OF REMOTE SENSING INFORMATION OF RUBBER IN HAINAN BASED ON FY-3A SATELLITE

Natural rubber is a strategic resource and the scarcity of resources, it is important for the national economy development. Hainan is the countrys largest production base of rubber. The aim of this research is to monitor the Natural rubber from FY-3A remote sensing observation in Hainan. This paper presents an automatic approach to rubber planting areas extraction for mixed vegetation and hilly region, more cloud using FY-3A MERSI data around Hainan province. The Maximum likelihood method was used to extract the information of rubber planting and their spatial distribution through the calculation of multiple-phase FY3A-NDVI and stylebook training regions of rubber of being selected by GPS. In this research, multiple-phase FY-3A data were used during rubber main growing season and deciduous season; NDVI temporal profiles of rubber were generated; models for planting areas extraction were developed based on the analysis of temporal NDVI curves; and spatial distribution map of planting areas of rubber in Hainan in 2008 were created. Compared with the large regions and little regions of rubber planting in monitoring image and the investigation of on the fixed-point by GPS, the resolute shows that the rubber planting information in remote sensing image are true. It will provide a technical support for the operation of rubber monitoring, and also provide a scientific foundation for the country to set up decision.
