EVALUATION OF EVAPOTRANSPIRATION IN ARID LAND USING MICRO POROUS CERAMIC SENSORS

A new measurement method for evapotranspiration (ET) has been developed using micro porous ceramic sensors. This method is characterized by the utilization of the ceramic sensors for real time precision irrigation. The rate of ET for a pittosporum has been determined as the first adaptation of this method at the Center for Urban Water Conservation, University of Nevada Las Vegas and University of Nevada Cooperative Extension (CUWC). The ET value increased gradually with time, and reached its saturated value after three days. The ET rate showed the similar cyclic response of the time differential of the air temperature. The correlation between the ET rate and the negative water level in the reservoir has a linear relation without the nonlinear ranges which corresponded to the quick increases ET rate in the early morning.
