A Novel Multiband Frequency Selective Surface Based On Y-loop Elements

Introduction Frequency selective surfaces(FSS) can be configured to function as low-pass, high-pass, bandpass fiters and can be applied in the areas of antenna, radomes, dichroic reflectors and artificial magnetic conductors etc1. In recent years, the design of multiband FSS has attracted much attention because of the increasing demands on multifunctionality of antennas and filters for communications and detections. To obtain a multiband frequency response there are many methods such as combined elements2, complex elements (fractal elements)3-4, multilayered FSS, or the combination of several of those techniques. In this paper, a novel multiband FSS based on Y-loop elements is proposed. A FSS with dual-band at Ka-and Ku-band is designed. The Finite difference time domain(FDTD) method is used to simulate the transmission and reflection characteristics of the proposed FSS.
