Family Enterprise Governance Structure and Headquarter Relocation

The headquarter relocation problem of the family enterprises born in small cities has become an important issue of common concern both in business and academia. The existing research literature focus on location factors of the family enterprises headquarter relocation, and neglect the decisive role of the special governance structure of the family enterprise on headquarter relocation. Base on literature review, this paper brings the Chinese traditional culture into the study of the family enterprises governance structure, analyzes the characteristics of the governance structure under the impact of the Pattern of Difference Sequence, and points out that the family enterprises governance structure is the organic integration of internal governance and external governance. On this basis, case study method is used to study the relationship between the family enterprises governance structure and the headquarter relocation decision making. The findings show that the core decision makers of the family enterprise, the government institutions and strategic partners who both have strong relationships with the core decision makers not only constitute the basic pattern of the family enterprise, but also have a decisive role in the headquarter relocation decision-making.
