The Separation of Ownership and Management in Family Business--Path and Advantage

The separation of ownership and management (ISO&M) within family means the split of two roles: family manager and family shareholder. Previous studies about Chinese family business (CFB) claimed that the ISO&M can not happen in CFB, our case study about Li & Fung finds: ISO&M happened twice in Fung family; although the family managers had taken over family firm in final, the ISO&M lasted for 47 years. The case of Li & Fung tells us: the path of ISO&M can be applied to CFB; ISO&M can create advantage for family business.
