Team Social Capital, Team Human Capital and Team Performance
The existing research contributes to our understanding of the value of organization-level human and social capital; however, it does not well address the roles of team-level social and human capital in team performance. Using a sample of 256 members from 53 teams in agricultural sciences academies, we examined the relationships between team social capital, team human capital, and team performance (team result-oriented task performance and team process-oriented innovation performance). The results showed that teams which have higher level of social capital tend to enhance level of human capital, that team social and human capital had significant and positive influences on both types of team performance with difference in the extent of the influences, and that team human capital mediated the relationships between team social capital and team performance. Findings provided new perspectives and practical implications for effective management of teams in terms of team social and human capital.
