Quali-Site: a Syngenta Agro Consulting Service to support the seed treatment industry improve operator safety in France
Quali-Site is a decision process tool to reduce the potential for exposure of operators to chemical hazards due to handling pesticides in the seed treatment industry. This tool focuses on analysing real work practices of operators and assessing skin and respiratory exposure levels in these practices using a tracer, fludioxonil (a fungicide widely used in seed treatment industry). A formal evaluation of the tool has been conducted by an ergo-toxicologist in a pilot project covering 3 different seed treatment plants. Knowledge management techniques have been used to transfer improved practices via the decision tool to about twenty five percent of the French seed treatment industry in less than 3 years.
