EU Directive on manual handling of loads and the implementation in the Nordic countries
All the EU countries are obliged to comply with the European Directive on manual handling of loads. The Nordic countries have transposed the EU Directive into their respective national legislation. The countries have developed tools for inspections and for risk assessments. But there are some differences regarding which risks are comprised and how they are assessed. Denmark and Norway have e.g. limits for the total amount of kilos per day that a person is allowed to lift. This is not included in the Swedish legislation. However, there is an aim to harmonize the legislation and its enforcement in the Nordic countries.
