Children Ergonomics
Childhood is an important stage in our life. Psychoanalytic theories (e.g. Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung and Alfred Adler) share an emphasis on personality development and early childhood experiences. According to psychoanalytic view, early experiences whether good or bad shape ones personality for an entire lifetime, and psychological problems in adulthood may have their origins in difficult or traumatic childhood experiences. Therefore, childhood experiences should be taken into consideration if positive and constructive adjustment is to be achieved at adulthood stage. Furthermore, the number of children in the world is increasing. According to The United Nations Childrens Fund (UNICEF), number of children in the world is about 2.2 billion. And the number of children living in developing countries is about 1.9 billion. In addition to this, number of children seems to increase over the time. In 1960, the number of children was about one billion, in 1980, it was about 1.5 billion, and in 2000, it was about 1.8 billion. Of course, this increase is attributed to health programs and to better and improved nutrition. Death among children has also decreased to a large extent. Despite the fact that children number is high and childhood is important in our life, ergonomics has left this very important area unstudied for years. Therefore, this paper discusses children ergonomics. The major issues discussed are: children at home, children at school, children in streets and public areas, children at work and special need children.
