The redesign of a tram driver’s workstation: An activity approach
The aim of the present paper is to report on the importance of an analyzing activity in its systemic sense during ergonomic interventions. Specifically through a case study involving a corrective re-arrangement of a tram drivers workstation, we demonstrate how the initial demand for intervention was challenged and transformed by the analysis of driving activity and how the analysis of the collective activity of tram drivers and the activity of the organization as a whole directed design solutions.
