Development process of physical postal tasks and work environment
Over 20 000 workers were carrying out different postal tasks in the Itella Group (former Finland Post) in 2006. The percentage of employee sickness absence days was rising, half of which was due to musculoskeletal disorders and diseases, as postal tasks involve a heavy physical workload. Therefore, workload factors and physical risks were analyzed carefully, and good practices for postal work were developed. Special multiprofessional groups worked on about 80 development projects. The development process and methods of this project proved feasible and resulted in several technical solutions and good practices.
