Build the User Emotional Genetic Model to Generate New Form in Automobile Concept Design

Users emotional response towards products has become a key factor to improve the customer experience and acceptance in the market. A variety of ergonomics researches emerged in the past decades on measuring users affect requirements and evaluating emotion response to a product. In the paper, a study is reported that was designed to build a user emotional genetic model based on the genetic grammar. First, the study simplified the automobile form to the outline in three views. Then, the study developed user emotional metrics based on the widely-used semantic differentials to measure the relationship between users emotions and automobile form elements. Third, the user emotional genetic model to generate new form was built which can generate new automobile outline from user emotions. Finally, an experimental computer-aided automobile design system -CBAS was constructed which evolved 5 generation and one selected generative form is used in a design practice in 2008.
