Citarasa System for Elicitation and Analysis of Affective Needs

The role of emotion in product design has been given much emphasis in human factors research lately. Various methods have been developed to uncover affective needs and the emotional response that people give to products. This paper presents a tool developed in the project on Computerized Automotive Technology Reconfiguration (CATER) System for Mass Customization. The tool is based on the Citarasa Engineering concept which drives development of the Webbased Citarasa System. The system may be used for identifying and evaluating affective needs in vehicle design. To demonstrate the utility of the system, we describe its development in terms of system architecture, citarasa engineering database, and the elicitation and analysis modules that interface with the database. The system has been technically verified and tested for usability with both customers and automotive end users.
