A quality control protocol of 3-D body scanners for abdominal circumference measurement

A Japanese consortium of 3-D body scanner developers/dealers developed a forum standard quality control protocol of 3-D body scanners for abdominal circumference measurement. Establishment of the protocol is required for using a 3-D body scanner at annual health examinations. The protocol consists of three parts: (1) Comparability part is to evaluate the comparability between measurements obtained by a 3-D body scanner and by traditional methods using living subjects, (2) Uncertainty part is to evaluate the accuracy of a measurement system by measuring an test object and comparing the measured value with the true value of the test object given by a CMM, (3) Verification part is to verify the uncertainty by measuring a simple cylinder and comparing the result with the measurement by a tape measure. We applied the protocol to three systems and confirmed the availability of the protocol.
