Brazilian Oil and Gas Industry 3D Anthropometric Survey

The lack of anthropometric data representative of Brazilian oil and gas company workers has been leading to inappropriate product, workstation and work environment ergonomic design for this population. Considering INTs experience in conducting anthropometric surveys of the Brazilian population, the Brazilian oil and gas company has demanded a 3D anthropometric survey to establish a collection of anthropometric data representative of the variability of their workers. Taking as a reference the methodology established for Civilian American and European Surface Anthropometry Resource (CAESAR) project, on this survey it will be used 3D surface anthropometry technology and traditional anthropometric methods for data collection. It will be used a 3D whole body scanner and a 3D head and face laser scanner. The methodology will include four sets of measurements: the first one will be traditional measurements that consists of classic anthropometer, caliper and tape measurements that will be collected from each subject prior to scanning session. The second set of measurements, extracted measurements, will be computed as point-to-point or point-to-surface distances from completed scans in standing posture. The third set of measurements, also extracted measurements, will be computed as point-to-point or point-to-surface distances from completed scans in seated posture. The fourth set of measurements will be demographic data. The final data will enable volume and surface area calculation, registering the shape of body segments and contours using INTEGRATE software from US Air Force Research Laboratory. That software allows 3D scan landmark extraction, data interrogation and heuristic (quality control checking). All measurements will also enable detailing human models and its physical shapes, useful for the oil and gas industry that will enable less costs and less time consuming on equipment, workstation and work environment design, suitable for its population.
