WORKLOAD AND MUSCULOSKELETAL DISORDER ON SEAWEED FARMERS IN NUSA PENIDA
Seaweed is cultivated traditionally in the island of Nusa Penida, Bali, and should follow many routes namely cultivating, conservancy, picking, drying, sorting and storing. Cultivating and picking is done in sea water, with standing and awkward posture. With current condition the workers feel fatigue and musculoskeletal complaints during and after working, especially at waist, shoulder, and neck. These complaints were caused by awkward posture, low working surface, heavy lifting, and forceful movements. To avoid awkward posture, an intervention was done by using a canoe, so that working surface quite higher to prevent awkward posture, together with lighter lifting work. The study was design based on treatment by subjects. The musculoskeletal complaints were assessed by using Nordic Body Map, and workloads were recorded by using ten pulses method. The results indicated that there was a decrease in musculoskeletal complaints, and decrease workload of farmers.
