INDUSTRIAL DESIGN AS AN EFFECTIVE APPROACH ON KID’S SAFETY

The purpose of this study is to assess and analyze the risks involved with a toy product (playing dough) and apply industrial design to find a risk mitigating solution. Despite the existence of different types of risks, we only focus on finding a solution to minimize one particular problem; the risk of childrens fingers getting stuck in the jaws of an instrument called “the playing dough shaper! This subject was selected due to its firm relationship with Industrial design and also the fact that kids safety is one of the prominent fields of community safety issues. In this research, our product of choice is a package consisted of playing dough and related tools. We followed some guidance and devised several methods to improve the toy and boost the ergonomic tradeoff between enjoyment of playing and kids safety. Final analysis showed that the main reasons of the problem are the nonexistence of a cautionary message to the child and the nonexistence of physical pressure. Our team found some industrial design ideas for preparing a safer also form-improved toy which can be produced economically.
