Developing of Safety Education Program for Injury Prevention in Elementary School Environment
School safety, especially school playground safety, is an urgent issue in Japan. A safety education program was developed as a new method for risk communication. In this program, schoolchildren actively tackle the problem of school safety, and injuries in the elementary school environment are controlled through education. To develop the program, data on “Fun and “Danger that schoolchildren feel on the elementary school playground were collected, and the degree of “Fun and “Danger was evaluated by using the Thurstones method of paired comparisons. We demonstrated that the perceptions of “Fun and “Danger were varied across different grades, and differed between schoolchildren and their teachers. The result will be useful in developing the required safety education.
