The investigation of the impact of psychological perceptions of technology acceptance on the relationship between ergonomic outputs
The increase in the demand for quality products and competition in the global market continues to induce developing countries to import technology from developed countries, primarily to increase their level of competitiveness in this global trading system. However, many researchers have cautioned against transfer of technology without regard to ergonomics citing amongst other problems with acceptance of the transferred technology by users in the recipient countries because of lack of ergonomic considerations. There has been extensive research showing how ergonomics factors such as anthropometrics can influence acceptance and effective utilisation of transferred technology in developing countries, but few of these studies have empirically investigated how psychological perceptions of technology acceptance namely perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use can impact on ergonomics output in developing countries. This study investigates how psychological perceptions of technology acceptance (e.g. perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use) in a developing country setting may impact on the relationship between ergonomics input (anthropometric dimensions) and ergonomics output (musculoskeletal disorders). A partial correlation analysis while controlling for perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use revealed that perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use did not moderate the relationship between anthropometric measurements and musculoskeletal disorders. Furthermore, using a one sample t-test, perceived usefulness was found to be significantly more important that perceived ease of use.
