Implementation of Ergonomics through Total Ergonomic Approach Model on Small Scale Industries –From Theory to Practice

Global changes have impacted to economy of the world and make some industries collapsed include in Indonesia. There are some small scales industries (SMEs) in Bali that can grow and survive regularly as informal industries. Lack of human resources is one aspect of SMEs problem in implementation new technology. In order to increase their productivity an easy way is needed to implement the ergonomics theory as a practical improvement. The aims is to make a sustain improvement without any complaints and side effect in the future. Among the intervention, it is needed a model that can be adopted and implemented practically. Total Ergonomic Approach Model is one of ergonomics model for SMEs. This model can drive active participation and encourage all stakeholders to choose the simplest way of problem identification, find the problem that will be improved and find an appropriate technology. This process was done through systemic, holistic, participatory and interdisciplinary. Mean while, appropriate technology was implemented based on concept economically, technologically, ergonomically, socio cultural, save energy and preserve the environment. There are some aspects that can be improved in simple way such as arrange the working time, arrange the meal, work posture, workstations height and information system. Improvement can be done practically and simpler to implement the theory itself. Its concluded that practical approach through total ergonomic approach model can be applied in implementation of ergonomics theory at SMEs.
