Face to Facial Communication
Facial communication among virtual humans has recently attracted much attention. However, its still a challenge to us for autonomous virtual humans in real-time interactive applications. We review the field of facial communication and previous work done on specific topics. By facial communication, we refer to the interaction by means of speech and facial expressions in real-time. We analyze the speech animation techniques, elaborating on lip synchronization, co-articulation and expression blending. We focus on various effects in facial animation in order to enhance realism. Further, we compare different schemes devised for easy design of facial animation. Finally, we discuss limitation and future trend in facial communication using autonomous dialogue systems.
