Effects of screen resolution and viewing distance for VDT tasks on searching performance and visual fatigue for workers of different age groups
The study investigated the effect of screen resolution (800×600, 1024×768, and 1280×1024) and viewing distance (50 and 80 cm) of VDT (Visual Display Terminal) tasks on the searching performance and visual fatigue for subjects form different age groups (20-30, 45-54, and over 54 years old). The results showed that screen resolution and age did not significantly affect subjects searching performance. However, subjects searching performance was significantly better at viewing distance of 50 cm than at 80 cm. Regarding the visual fatigue, the change of visual acuity and the subjective visual fatigue were not significantly affected by screen resolution and viewing distance. In addition, the subjective visual fatigue of 20-30 age group was significantly higher than other age groups (p<0.01)..
