Hand Arm Risk assessment Method (HARM), a new practical tool
For the Dutch Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment we developed a tool named ‘Hand Arm Risk Assessment Method (HARM). This tool can be used by any type of company for risk assessment of factors that contribute to disorders or complaints of the arm, neck or shoulders during manual work. Risks are assessed on task level. The procedure is comparable with the NIOSH-formula for lifting. Both a paper and webbased tool are available (in dutch). The tool was developed in three steps: (1) development and testing of a prototype paper and webbased version of the tool (2) study of the reliability and validity of the tool (3) using the results of the former steps to improve the tool and develop a web application available to all companies in the Netherlands. This paper focuses on the last two steps. The first step has been described in de Kraker & Douwes (2008).
