Evaluation of the Angle Effect of Cylindrical Handle on Static Lifting Strength

This study investigated the effect of handle angle and lifting height on MVC, stress on handle and work pulse. A randomized complete block design was applied. Twelve paid male students lifted a metal box with three different handle angles (0°, 45° and 90°) at three different lifting heights (floor, elbow and eye height). The results show that the MVC changed significantly due to the use of different handle angles. The use of a 0° handle angle resulted in the lowest MVC. Similar results found in stress on handle. For lifting height over elbow, the MVC and stress on handle were significantly greater than those for under elbow, but not to ΔHR. These findings suggest that a greater handle angle and a lifting height under elbow would be recommended to increase lifting capacity and lower the risk of musculoskeletal disorders.
