A Qualitative Study on Contributing Factors for Workload of Train Drivers
A qualitative study was executed to explore the factors of workload for train drivers. In order to collect data in our investigation, a series of methods were used: free interviews, task analysis using a portable Table-PC and video recording, standard questionnaires for workload assessment (e.g. NASA-ZEIS), ratings for shift sections and variants of trains used by the drivers as well as physiological measurement (e.g. heart rate). The results showed that the monotony of their work is a potential problem because of the limitation induced by the trains in use and driving on the same railway tracks every day.
