Electromyography study of measurements to look for comfort in an ezperimental vehicle seat

Integrated in one School of Design, inside one State University in Brazil - the CPqD (Center of Research and Development in Design and Ergonomics) stands out by research in automotive design and research in ergonomics, with the development of experimental vehicle competition called Sabiás (after the name of a Brazilian bird). The Sabiá Project has been participating since 1994 in marathons for fuel economy, now, the sixth version of the vehicle was developed. The cockpit of the vehicle must shelter and ensure safe conditions, comfort and healthy, so are essential ergonomic studies, mainly due to anthropometric differences between the pilot and reserve pilot. The studies were divided into two parts: The first part aimed defining the scope and primary angle of a chair used to ergonomic studies that fit to the two pilots and were presented and published in a European conference on ergonomics and occupational safety in 2008. In this paper are described the results obtained from a study of electromyographic measurements for analysis of comfort in the cockpit and corrections in the position previously set for the pilots. According to Filho (2006), The electromyography may be explained as a methodology able to analyze the muscle activity. The procedure is done through a device that allows the interpretation of the electric impulses emitted by the muscle.
