Ergonomics Wheelchair Design for the Aging People
In the family, the aging people become a special figure related to the nation socio-culture. In the national life the aging people are valuable resources considering their knowledge and experiences which could benefited to improve the quality of community as a whole. At above 60 years old, the aging people are very easy to suffer various diseases. Among of them are the diseases at the lower part, which make the aging people could not walk and running their own activity. For that reason an aid-tool is required to help aging people doing their daily activities. A tool for aging people with disability in their lower part is a wheel-chair. A wheel-chair is assistive appliance which used to people with disability in their body. The existing wheelchairs are considered to have some lacks for the aging people. Those lead to the needs for improvement and/or redesign in order to be more beneficial to them. The method used in this research is kansei engineering and gerontology approach. Kansei engineering is used as a method for designing wheel-chair product. Kansei engineering using the feeling of aging people who used the wheel-chair, where it translated into the kansei words that used in the design of the new wheelchair. Gerontology approach is used for analysis whether the wheel-chair influence the condition of the aging people physically, mentally or psychologically. By redesigning this kind of ergonomics wheelchair, the aging people hopefully could become more self-assisted without any help from the others.
