Electronic device design for brackets positioning by direct method

This paper deals with the design process of a medical device used for the positioning of brackets by direct method. The aim of the project was to design a device that improved precision and accuracy during the positioning of brackets, in order to reduce treatment time and treatment costs. A participatory design process was carried out, combining in a so called “methodological assembly, different approaches as concurrent engineering, participatory ergonomics, usability and user centred design. The interdisciplinary work between industrial designers, orthodontists, ergonomists and electronic engineers was a key aspect in the design decision making, enabling the developing of an integral technological solution, which goes beyond what each isolated discipline can offer.
