The relationship between trunk angle and the center of pressure

Purpose: The aim of this study was to examine the influence of visual cue and the trunk angle on the stability of posture. Method: The subject was a healthy adult 12 man. The center of pressure was measured at 10 different trunk flexion angles between 0° to 90°, during four different conditions. Condition 1: the control condition, consisting of a lit room measuring approximately 600lx at floor level. Condition 2: a dark room, limited visual cue.Condition 3: a dark room, no visual cues. Condition 4: a lit room, with the subject raised to a height of 70cm above the floor. Three different visual cue conditions were chosen to evaluate effect of visual cue limitation on the stability of posture. (Condition 1-3)Condition 4 was added in order to examine the influence of height on visual information. Result: When the trunk angle increased, the total track length increased. There is an interaction in the light room and the dark room. A synergetic effect was found by the increase of the trunk angle and the limitation on the visual information. When the trunk angle increased in the dark room that the unstableness increased more was observed. Conclusion: To maintain a steady posture, it is suggested that work with an excessive trunk angle is avoided and that extra visual cues are established.
