Span of color similarity of low vision
Spans of color similarity were measured using a criterion of similarity or same color appearance in a sample of low vision subjects. The stimuli were 16 reference colors that included fundamental colors specified by the categorical colors theory. 69 low vision subjects were participated and evaluated the similarity between test and reference colors under photopic (500 lx) and mesopic (3 lx) conditions. Compared to young unimpaired subjects, the span of reference colors was broader in low vision subjects under both lighting conditions. The percentage of colors judged to be similar or the same was greater under dark conditions. Analysis of the data by type of deficiency yielded common characteristics and differences in spans of color similarity for each classification.
