Visual fatigue evaluation of PDP, LCD and CRT TV
The objective of the study is to evaluate the influence of display type (PDP/LCD/CRT) and task type (2D/3D scene) on visual fatigue measures. Sixteen subjects participated in the experiment. Two 60 min video program tasks were involved in this experiment. Each task consisted of six 10 minutes sessions. The experiment design included four dependent variables: CFF, NPA, EEG O1(β/α) power index, subjective rating (SR); and three independent variables: Display type, Task type, and Watching time. The results indicate that no significant difference was found on visual fatigue measures between three TV types within 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, watching CRT caused higher visual fatigue than watching PDP and LCD. Further, in 3D task, the ranking of the increase in CFF of the three displays was: CRT>LCD>PDP. As to the moment to appear visual fatigue, LCD and CRT showed 10 minutes earlier than PDP in 3D task. As a whole, after the 30 minutes of TV watching, the ranking of the three displays was PDP>LCD>CRT for 3D video game task, and was LCD> PDP>CRT for 2D TV task.
