Measurement Methods for Automatic 3D Body Scan Measurement
This study has developed an automatic 1-D body measurement extraction method that overcomes the difficulties of scan measuring. The measurements that were studied were chest girth, under bust girth, neck base girth, armscye girth and side neck to breast point length. We used 3D body scan data from the 5th Size Korea database. Chest girth extraction method was developed to exactly divide the arms. Underbust girth extraction method was developed for a body type in which breasts sagged down and covered the under breast area. As for body shape, a curve was recreated by combining two cross sections, at manual underbust section and scan underbust section. Neck base girth method was developed for body types which neck bent forward. The neck base curve is created to not include points of other body parts but only the neck. Armscye girth method was developed for bodies whose under arm were not scanned properly. The under arm curve was created to be average under arm shape using the existing research results for under arm line. Side neck to breast point length extraction method was developed for the length line to not include unnecessary points on the upper neck part. This research verified the accuracy of the developed methods by comparing the scan measurement of this study against manual measurement. The result showed that our method enhanced the accuracy of the scan measurements of various body shapes and incomplete scan data.
