The User Research of Digital Archives for Memories and Narratives of Taiwan Mainlander

As Taiwan administration gave the impetus to “The Rebuilding of Military Dependents Villages, preserving these memories and emotions had become essential. This study hopes to provide another perspective of designing “Digital Archives for Memories and Narratives of Taiwan Mainlanders"and other Mainlanders culture preserving websites. This study was mainly conducted in the methodology of Contextual Inquiry, Focus Group, and User Diary for the data collection, recruiting subjects through the Internet, supplemented by Affinity Diagram and Work flow chart (Flow Model) for data analysis. Three user segments are classified by the in-depth interview: first, the researchers who engaged in cultural and historical preserving work of military dependents villages; second, the researchers whose topic related to Mainlanders culture; third, the Mainlanders, their descendants, as well as the people who want to understand the culture of Mainlanders. We apply Scenario-based Usability Engineering to delve into the user experiences, the results hope to provide the designer with user-center design suggestions and preventing the new interface or database designer from making the same mistake again.
