A REGRESSION-BASED CYCLE TIME ESTIMATOR FOR THE PCB PLACEMENT MACHINE
The assembly of printed circuit boards is completed by the sophisticated PCB placement machines. The cycle time for a placement machine to complete an assembly job is determined by solving the complicated machine-level optimization problems, i.e., the feeder arrangement problem and the placement sequencing problem. Rapid and accurate estimation of these cycle times is important for solving the higher level planning problems, e.g., the line balancing problem. In this paper, a regression-based estimating tool is proposed to estimate the cycle time for the placement machine. Influential factors, i.e., the number of components, the number of feeder required, and the density of the component locations on the board, are considered in the regression model. The statistic analysis shows that the proposed regression model has a very high value of coefficient of determination, indicating that it can obtain much accurate estimates of the cycle times..
