EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF A NEW HEURISTIC BALANCING LINES WITH CNC MACHINES:

In this paper, we consider a problem of balancing transfer lines with sequence-dependent setup-times and parallel machines. The studied lines are paced and serial, i.e. a part to be machined passes through a sequence of stations. Stations are composed of CNC machines. At least one CNC (Computer Numerical Controller) machine is installed at each station. The used CNC machines are mono-spindle head machines; hence it needs to take into account setup times between operations. Setup times are due to various causes, namely the change and displacement of the tool, rotation of the part, etc. Because of setup times, the station workload depends on the sequence in which the operations are assigned to the station. The objective consist to assign a given set of operations, required for part machining, as well as machines to a sequence of stations in order to minimize the total cost of the line. We propose here a heuristic based on the GRASP metaheuristic and experimentations are developed.
