PERFORMANCE STUDY OF RFID FEEDBACK IN MRP SYSTEMS
This study presents the effect of RFID technology in the performance of MRP systems when coping with problems related to information flow. Analysis was performed by simulation of a job-shop with the RFID technology in a layer between the job shop and the MRP system. This layer consists of RFID readers/writers, RFID tags, and computers. Shop performance was evaluated considering the indicators of WIP level, Fill Rate, and Overtime. A design of experiments was developed to test the study hypothesis on the RFID effect. The simulation model of the system was intended to be as close as a real system as possible, so that the results could be easily applied to real case scenarios. Results show that e-MRP has a better performance when compared to MRP. Comparison of e-MRP and CONWIP shows mixed results, not being possible to conclude a general improvement. Arena models from the manufacturing line operating under MRP and CONWIP are shown and simulation results are analyzed to test the hypothesis.
