QUOTATION AND CAPACITY PLANNING WITH CONTINGENT ORDERS IN MAKE-TO-ORDER (MTO) SYSTEM
Quotation represents the initial phase of order acceptant/rejection (OA) decision. In MTO system, the OA decision is often a result of negotiation between the customer and the manufacturer. Until the decision, order remains as a contingent demand for the manufacturer which is a critical source of uncertainty. This paper propose a new method to quote the due date and price of an incoming order in the presence of contingent orders. Proposed method utilizes the probabilistic theory and incorporates some theories of negotiation such as aspiration level, limit level to generate quotation. To offset the uncertainty of contingent orders, the method implements switching strategy. Instead of single quotation, considering trade-off relationship between the due date and the price, the method can generate sets of quotation. Numerical analysis is presented to demonstrate the working mechanism and effectiveness of proposed method.
