A HEURISTIC METHOD FOR INTERNATIONAL TRANSPORTATION SCHEDULING PROBLEM INCORPORATING CO2 EMISSION LEV ELS
Because of the resolution of environmental problems, in the transportation sector in particular, the need to reduce CO2 emissions has necessitated changes in manufacturing and distribution infrastructures. This paper considers a transportation scheduling problem in which loads are transported from an overseas production base to three demand centers in Japan. In addition, we address three target areas, which are carrier choices, considering less-than carrier load, and various options for domestic transportation among demand centers, for reducing CO2 emissions. The research model was formulated as a mixed integer programming (MIP) problem. However, capacity problems stemming from a large number of orders could not be solved in a reasonable amount of time. So, in this study, a heuristic method is adopted and compared with exact method through numerical experiments.
