(UN)INTEGRATED FRAMEWORK FOR STRATEGIC CAPACITY MANAGEMENT

Matching volatile demands patterns and uncertainty against cost efficiency ensures improved productivity for industrial companies. However, dynamic changes in business environment superseded the adaptation pace of organisations to re-formulate its strategy, its structure, processes and control mechanism. Past researchers have concentrated on utilisation of resources to patch this gap. However, the approach has been horizontal and targeted at a specific operation (Order Entry Points, manufacturing strategy, outsourcing decisions, control processes and organisational structure) which in itself is limited in scope. This paper proposes an alternative framework to integrate these concepts into an integrated Strategic Capacity Management framework. Linking of these concepts through collaborative information processing capability sees the exploitation of operational resources and formation of a flexible and functional Quick Scan model for strategic level decision making, as a starting point for a research project.
