THE EFFECT OF SETUP TIME REDUCTION ON OPTIMAL LOT SIZES IN BATCH MANUFACTURING
This research investigates optimal lot-sizing under setup time reduction in a single-stage, capacityconstrained replenishment system. Simulation-optimization is used to find optimal reorder points and lot sizes in a 33 full factorial experiment in which inventory is minimized subject to a service level constraint. Statistical analysis is used to model predictive relationships for the optimal reorder points and lot sizes as a function of demand, setup time and service level factors. Results show that optimal lot sizes decrease linearly with reduced setup times.
