MULTI-AGENT SIMULATION MODEL FOR AN AGRICULTURAL SUPPLY CHAIN IN COLOMBIA.

Agricultural supply chain analysis in developing countries is a complex problem because of the variety of decision makers that interact within. This kind of supply chain is characterized for the wide influence of intermediaries in the trading and commercialization processes. This intermediation causes that the transaction costs among farmers, traders and consumers are high. This phenomenon makes that the gap between the price paid by the consumers and the money that the farmers receive increases significantly. Multi-agent systems offer a new perspective to analyze these kinds of situations. This work proposes a multi-agent simulation model to capture the complexity of this situation and analyzes different scenarios that help understand the effects of cooperation, better information, and best agricultural practices among others. The model is tested with data from a real supply chain that produces and trades tropical fruits in Colombia.
