DETERMINISTIC PERISHABLE INVENTORY MODELING: THE TREND, GAPS AND FUTURE

Recent reviews showing the overwhelming focus of researchers on deterministic demand models and the increasing industrial application of such models call for elaborate review of deterministic perishable inventory models to reveal the trend, the gaps and the focus for future research. This paper presents a review of recent advances in perishable inventory modeling with focus on models with deterministic demand from the year 2000 and compares it with the suggestions and direction given in previous reviews. The various approaches used by researchers in treating basic and special model characteristics were analyzed under different classifications. The current trend and areas of relatively low research focus were identified with suggestions for future research. The review shows that more efforts are needed in the aspect of production inventory modeling with realistic features like constant lead time, discount and payment delay.

Inventory models deterioration deterministic demand production inventory.
