Vertical Dynamic Stability Analysis of EDS Levitation Systems Based on Halbach Magnet Arrays

The paper deals with the dynamic characteristics of the EDS levitation systems based on Halbach arrays. It is well known that the EDS levitation systems are self-stable, but for a successful commercial application, a good dynamic character must be ensured. As EDS levitation systems based on Halbach arrays are showing a promising future, and some maglev trains as well as other applications on military usage have already gained lots of useful conclusions. In this paper, the vertical dynamic stability is analyzed with a conclusion that the EDS system based on Halbach magnet arrays is under-damped with a persistent disturbance. As a result, some supplement damping measures should be applied. A comparison of different kinds of damping measures is discussed. At the end, a model based on the magnetic compensation damping is built and the simulation results showed an agreeable character of this measure.
