Tension of Land Allocation between Food and Cotton Production in China: An Analysis Based on Macro Data
As a developing agricultural country, China attaches great importance to the safety and sustainable development of food and cotton. In the past decades, China made a miracle by feeding 22% of worlds total population with only 7% of worlds total arable land. As the main producing and consuming country of cotton, Chinas cotton production is related to the employment of 60 million people from the rural area and 20 million textile workers and the livelihood of 100 million rural populations. Food safety is the foundation of national and social security. In recent years when supply-and-demand tension emerged, the nation paid high attention to food production.
